Mcdonald observatory texas7/28/2023 ![]() May perform tasks typical of the daytime support team (i.e., filling cryogens, assisting with instrument set-up, etc.). May train daytime staff on regular telescope operational techniques. Under the direction of the OS Manager, provides support, and staff support, for daytime operations. Identifies professional development opportunities for the ROA team members and facilitates opportunities under the guidance of the OS manager. Responsibilities include recruiting, training, scheduling, approving time, and other supervisory duties. Provides reports on common observing problems or efficiency issues to engineering teams. Provides feedback to the ROA team and science users on operational concerns and restrictions. Supports facility improvement projects as directed. Creates and maintains telescope user documents for ROAs and observers. Works within the observing support (OS) team to respond to nighttime emergencies and queries, responding to the observer and remote assistant nighttime problems and providing troubleshooting assistance as needed. Conducts remote observing operations, typical of the remote operations assistant (ROA) team, in collaboration with the astronomical observer. Provides first-night training to new users of Mt.
